The Fall of Arrogance

Enraged, Korr attacks Elara. She, however, uses his own momentum and the unstable ground, tricking him into falling into the chasm he created. His destructive power becomes his undoing.

Korr’s laughter, a sound like mountains grinding together, died in his throat. He saw the tiny shelf of rock, the minuscule beings spilling from Elara’s palm onto the blessed, solid earth. He saw her gentle placement, the deliberate care in her immense hands. And his rage, a tempest in his colossal chest, surged. “Playing with your food, little one?” he boomed, the words a physical force that vibrated through Elara’s moss-green skin.

Elara met his gaze, her own grey eyes unflinching. “I saved them,” she said, her voice a quiet rumble, a stark contrast to his thunderous pronouncements.

Korr’s massive brow furrowed, his features contorting into a mask of disdain. “They are vermin,” he sneered, the word spat out like gravel. “They build their little nests and then scurry when we walk. They are a blemish. They have no purpose.” He gestured dismissively towards the scattered humans, who were already scrambling to their feet, their tiny forms a blur of frantic movement.
