Chapter 13
A Glimpse of Melissa
A chance encounter with a woman who resembles Melissa sends John reeling, forcing him to confront his grief and the true cost of his mission.
The hum of the ventilation system was a constant, a low thrumming that had been the soundtrack to my life for as long as I could remember. It was the sound of the deep mines, the sound of our existence, a monotonous lullaby that lulled us into accepting our fate. But now, even that familiar drone felt alien, a mockery of the vibrant life I’d once known, a life that had been stolen from me. The Sons of Anarchy had a network, a whisper of informants and sympathizers, and my current assignment was to observe and gather intel on a prominent Gold diplomat, a man named Seraphin Thorne, whose influence was growing within the Council. Lyra had stressed the importance of blending in, of becoming a ghost within their opulent world.
