Chapter 9
Shattered Bonds
The desperate chase exposes the fault lines within the group. Rico's fervent loyalty to Kai begins to waver under the crushing weight of fear and the escalating danger. Kai, his mask of leadership slipping, reveals a more ruthless, self-preserving nature, willing to sacrifice anyone to save himself. Liam, witnessing this brutal transformation, realizes the true extent of Kai's manipulation and the precariousness of his own position. He must now rely on his own wit and courage, navigating not only the external threat of capture but also the internal betrayal that cuts deeper than any physical wound.

The bravado he’d worn like a second skin earlier that night had been stripped away, leaving him exposed and terrified.
Maya, her usual cautious demeanor amplified by the sheer terror of the moment, was a blur of motion beside me. Her breath came in short, ragged gasps. “Liam, we have to split up!” she hissed, her eyes darting down a narrow alleyway that smelled of stale beer and desperation.
