The First Grey Light

The relentless pounding in my chest had finally started to subside, replaced by a dull ache that throbbed in time with my ragged breaths. Where were they? Kai, Maya, Rico? The thought flickered through my mind, a desperate, almost primal need for their presence. Just hours ago, we had been a unit, a tightly knit pack bound by shared transgression and the intoxicating rush of danger.
