A Temple's Silent Omen
Visiting a temple, they speak with Priestess Elara. While Elara offers blessings, a subtle unease permeates the air, a shared glance between Stella and Harper hinting at something amiss beyond their city's walls.
The first rays of dawn, soft and hesitant, painted the sky in hues of rose and lavender, a gentle awakening for Aegis Reach. My chambers, usually filled with the crisp scent of sea salt and the faint hum of the city stirring, held a different, warmer aroma this morning – the comforting fragrance of freshly baked bread and brewing chamomile. I’d risen early, as I often did, the weight of command a familiar cloak I donned before the sun even peeked over the eastern cliffs. But even the most pressing duties could wait for a moment when Harper was here.
I found her already at the small, sun-drenched table in my private quarters, a mischievous grin playing on her lips as she expertly buttered a slice of the still-warm loaf. Her fiery red hair, usually a riot of curls, was tamed somewhat by a simple braid, though a few rebellious tendrils escaped to frame her bright, inquisitive face. Harper, my chosen sister, my anchor in the storm, was the only one who could coax a genuine, unrestrained smile from me before the day’s formalities began.
“Morning, Commander,” she said, her voice laced with mock solemnity. “Reporting for duty, and I must say, the breakfast rations are *exquisite*.” She winked, a crumb of bread clinging precariously to her chin.
