Preparing the Defenses
Stella begins discreetly organizing the city's defenses, relying on her command experience. Harper uses her energy to rally support and gather necessary supplies, their teamwork essential.
The first rays of dawn, still a soft blush against the rugged peaks surrounding Aegis Reach, found me already awake. The scent of brewing coffee, rich and dark, filled the air of my small, surprisingly cozy dwelling within the Commander’s Quarters. It was a familiar comfort, a grounding ritual before the demands of the day, and the weight of the city, truly began to press down. My armor, polished to a mirror sheen, stood sentinel by the door, a constant reminder of my duty, but for now, it was the worn, comfortable tunic and trousers that clothed me.
Harper’s laughter, bright and unrestrained, drifted from the kitchen, a melody that always managed to chase away the lingering shadows of sleep. “Stella, you absolute hermit! Are you brewing that celestial nectar without me again?”
I chuckled, pouring myself a mug. “Someone has to ensure the world doesn’t end before breakfast, Harper. And it certainly isn’t going to be you, still wrestling with that stubborn braid.”
