Outside, the mangled remains of the *Odyssey* tumbled silently through the inky void, a testament to the brutal efficiency of Silas Vane’s ambush. Aris Thorne, his grizzled face etched with a weariness that went beyond mere physical exhaustion, watched the debris field recede through the reinforced viewport. Beside him, Lena Petrova, her usual scientific composure shattered, stared blankly ahead, her knuckles white where she gripped the edge of her seat. Jian Li, remarkably calm despite the harrowing escape, was already running diagnostics on the pod’s limited systems, his fingers flying across the holographic interface.

“Report, Jian,” Aris said, his voice a low rumble that did little to mask the turmoil within him.

“Hull integrity is at eighty-two percent,” Jian replied, his eyes never leaving the flickering readouts. “Life support is stable, but our power reserves are critically low. We have enough for approximately twelve hours of sustained operation at minimal output.”
