The air in the chamber was thick, not with dust, but with something far heavier – the palpable weight of untold centuries, of secrets held hostage. Aris’s breath hitched, each inhale a shallow, inadequate gasp. The faint, phosphorescent glow emanating from the device at the center of the room cast long, dancing shadows that seemed to writhe with malevolent intent. It pulsed, a low, rhythmic hum thrumming through the very stone beneath their feet, a heartbeat of forgotten power. The Chronos Device. A distant relative, a twisted echo of his own lineage, dedicated to preserving a lie.

“So, the prodigal son returns,” Elias’s voice was a low rasp, like stones grinding together, yet it carried an unnerving authority that echoed in the vastness of the chamber. He stepped fully into the light, revealing a simple, dark tunic, its austerity only amplifying the intensity of his gaze. Two hulking figures, robed in similar dark cloth, materialized behind him, their faces obscured by deep hoods. They moved with a silent, predatory grace that spoke of rigorous training. “And he brings a… companion. How quaint.”
