Chapter 15
Maeve's Sacrifice

Outside, the wind had picked up, whistling through the eaves like a mournful song, carrying with it the unsettling whispers of the encroaching darkness. Her eyes, usually bright with a knowing twinkle, were clouded with a profound weariness. "Its hunger is insatiable. It feeds on the forgotten, on the silence where magic once sang."
Elara’s heart tightened. She had felt it too, a creeping chill that no amount of sunshine could dispel, a growing apathy that settled over the village like a shroud. The laughter of children seemed muted, the elders’ stories grew shorter, and the vibrant colours of the world seemed to leach away, leaving behind a dull grey.
