The first rays of dawn, gentle and hesitant, painted the sky in hues of rose and gold as Ada emerged from the forest. The air, crisp and clean, held no trace of the chilling dread that had clung to her for so long. Behind her, the trees stood sentinel, their branches no longer cloaked in menace but bathed in the soft, morning light. The silence that had descended upon the woods was a balm, a profound quietude that spoke of peace restored.

As she neared the edge of Umuaku, a murmur rippled through the awakening village. Heads turned, eyes widened, and then a wave of recognition washed over the faces gathered. A hushed awe gave way to a joyous clamor. Children, their faces still etched with the lingering shadows of fear, broke free from their mothers' skirts, their hesitant steps quickening into a run. Soon, a throng of villagers surrounded Ada, their voices a symphony of relief and gratitude.

"Ada! You are back!" cried Mama Ezinne, her hands clasped tightly, tears streaming down her weathered cheeks. "We feared you were lost to us, like the others."
