The sun, a benevolent, slightly faded entity in the sky, cast long shadows across Georgie Draper’s meticulously untidy garden. It was the kind of garden where the roses bravely fought for dominance against the dandelions, and the birdbath, perpetually filled with a murky, leaf-strewn brew, served as a monument to Georgie’s fleeting intentions. He sat on a weathered bench, a cup of tea, lukewarm and tasting vaguely of forgotten biscuits, clutched in his hand. His hair, once a wild mop of enthusiastic brown, had mellowed into a distinguished silver, but the twinkle in his eye remained as mischievous as ever.

Beside him, Eleanor Vance, ever the picture of poised practicality, sipped her own, undoubtedly perfectly brewed, tea. She watched Georgie with a familiar, fond exasperation. “You know,” she began, her voice laced with amusement, “I was just thinking about that time you tried to start a bespoke umbrella repair service. ‘Umbrellas: Held Together by Hope and Good Intentions,’ wasn’t it?”

Georgie let out a hearty chuckle, a sound that still rumbled through him like a well-loved engine. “Ah, yes! The ‘Rainy Day Rescuers.’ Poor old Mrs. Higgins brought me her grandmother’s antique parasol, a delicate thing with lace edging. I swore I’d have it back to her, good as new. Instead, I managed to… well, let’s just say the frame decided to embrace a more avant-garde, Jackson Pollock-esque aesthetic. And the fabric? It ended up looking like it had been in a very unfortunate, very public, argument with a mothball collection.”
