Asad’s hand, still bandaged from the encounter, reached for mine, his touch a lifeline in the disorienting calm. His eyes, usually so full of fire, held a weariness that mirrored my own.
"Sana," he began, his voice a low rumble, "we did it. We faced him, and we survived."
I leaned into his touch, drawing strength from his presence. "But at what cost, Asad? The truth, it feels like a double-edged sword. It saved us, but it also… it fractured everything we thought we knew." My gaze drifted to the ornate, yet unsettling, locket that now lay on a velvet cushion between us. It was the source of so much pain, so much deception. Malik’s obsession, the ancient secrets it held, had nearly torn us apart.
