Davies, a man whose jowls seemed to sag with the weight of his own corruption, steepled his fingers.

“Vinnie, my boy,” Davies began, his voice a low rumble, “we’re talking about… opportunities. For both of us.” He gestured vaguely with a manicured hand, encompassing the opulent room, the city skyline visible through the tall windows, and Vinnie’s own rising star.

Vinnie nodded, his gaze steady. He’d learned to read the subtle shifts in men like Davies, the way their eyes darted, the almost imperceptible tightening of their jaws when they were about to lay their traps. He knew this meeting wasn’t about opportunity; it was about obligation. The ‘opportunity’ was a thinly veiled demand, a test of his loyalty, a way to bind him tighter to the rot that permeated Haverford.
