Chapter 7
The Echo Chamber
Level Seven introduces The Echo, an entity that preys on regret. Zack is forced to confront distorted memories of his past mistakes, his self-recrimination amplified.
The air in Level Seven was thick, not with dust or decay, but with a profound, suffocating silence. Zack had expected a new kind of threat, a more visceral terror than the unseen eyes of the Watcher or the disorienting illusions of the Architect. Then, the whispers began. They weren’t the sibilant, secretive murmurs of the Architect, nor the predatory rustles of the Watcher. These were softer, more insidious, like the rustling of dry leaves in a forgotten attic. They were his own thoughts, twisted and amplified, laced with a venom he hadn’t realized he possessed.
