The silence that descended upon Oakhaven wasn't the peaceful hush of a summer evening, but a heavy, almost suffocating blanket. It clung to the air, thick with the unspoken and the unresolved. For days, the town had been a stage for a nightmare, its inhabitants teetering on the brink of madness, their faces contorted with suspicion and terror. Now, as the final, desperate confrontation faded like a bad dream, a fragile calm began to seep in.

Alex sat on the porch steps, the wood cool beneath his shorts. The sun was beginning its slow descent, painting the sky in hues of bruised purple and fiery orange, a stark contrast to the grey pallor that had settled over his own spirit. Beside him, Benji chewed nervously on his thumbnail, his eyes darting to every shadow, every rustle of leaves.

"You think it's… over?" Benji whispered, his voice raspy.
