Dr. Aris Thorne, his worn tweed jacket pulled tight against an unseen chill, followed the Archivist’s ethereal glow deeper into the labyrinthine heart of the old city. Cobblestones, slick with a dew that seemed to have no source, gleamed under the Archivist’s luminescence, each one a tiny mirror reflecting the distorted shadows of buildings that leaned precariously against each other, as if sharing ancient secrets.
“This place,” Thorne murmured, his voice a low rasp, “it feels… hollow.”
