The air in the cavern was thick with the stench of ozone and something else, something ancient and corrupt. Ahtawan, bound by chains that hummed with a malevolent energy, felt the very roots of the world beneath him writhe. The Semagan Leader, a silhouette cloaked in shadows that seemed to absorb all light, observed him with an unnerving stillness.

“You do not understand the forces you command, sorcerer,” the Leader’s voice was a dry rustle, like leaves skittering across a barren plain. “You are but a conduit, a key. And we, we are the locksmiths.”

Ahtawan strained against his bonds, his mind a whirlwind of frantic thought. He had seen the Semagans’ true purpose not through their words, but through the visions they forced upon him – fractured glimpses of worlds bleeding into one another, of natural laws unraveling like frayed threads. They sought to shatter the delicate balance, to unmake the very essence of existence, and he, with his deep connection to the lifeblood of the realms, was their instrument.
