Chapter 9
The Crossroads
Torn between Klaus's ancient power and the painful truth, Elara must choose. Will she embrace the grove's shadowed legacy, or sever the ties that bind her to its sorrowful echoes?
The air in the Forgotten Grove hummed with a silent, insistent question. It wasn't a sound, not really, but a vibration that settled deep within my bones, a resonance that mirrored the turmoil in my own chest. And Seraphina, my sister, whose bright laughter had curdled into a silence so profound it had shattered me. All of them gone, and now this. This man, Klaus, who seemed to exist outside of time, whispering truths that threatened to unravel everything I thought I knew.
“She… she came here?” I managed, my voice a fragile thread. The words felt inadequate, a clumsy attempt to contain the immensity of what he was suggesting. My mother, a lover of sunlight and blooming things, a woman who found beauty in the mundane, here, in this place that felt so steeped in secrets and shadows.
