The locket, cold against my skin for so long, had begun to hum. Not a sound my ears could discern, but a vibration that resonated deep within my bones, a low thrumming that echoed the restless beat of my own heart. It was a subtle shift, almost imperceptible at first, like the first tremor of an earthquake that begins miles beneath the earth’s surface. I’d found myself touching it more often, tracing the intricate scrollwork with my fingertips, feeling the smooth, worn metal beneath my touch. Each time, a faint warmth seemed to seep from it, a warmth that had nothing to do with the ambient temperature of my small room.

The dreams, too, were intensifying. They no longer felt like distant echoes, but like insistent whispers, tugging at the edges of my consciousness. Faces flickered at the periphery of my vision, figures I almost recognized, their expressions a mixture of longing and sorrow. Places, too, began to emerge with a startling clarity: a sun-drenched courtyard paved with stones worn smooth by centuries of footsteps, a towering waterfall that cascaded into a mist-shrouded pool, a market square alive with the vibrant chaos of a thousand voices. And always, the feeling of a profound, inexplicable loss, a yearning for something I couldn't name.

One evening, as I sat by the window, the setting sun bleeding hues of orange and violet across the sky, I held the locket in my palm. The warmth was more pronounced tonight, a gentle heat that spread through my fingers. As I closed my eyes, letting the sensation wash over me, a name, faint and ethereal, seemed to brush against my mind: *Elara*. It was a whisper, barely there, yet it settled in my heart with a strange familiarity, like a forgotten melody surfacing from the depths of memory.
