The air thrummed, a palpable vibration that sang in Lynne’s bones, a melody older than memory. It was a scent, too, not of damp earth or woodsmoke, but something wilder, something that spoke of starlight and forgotten dew. Before her, where the ancient oak had stood sentinel for centuries, now shimmered an archway. Not of stone, nor wood, but of woven light, shifting and swirling like captured nebulae. It pulsed with an invitation and a warning, a beckoning hand and a clenched fist. This was it. The threshold. The culmination of the fragmented whispers, the insistent tug of the locket against her skin, the cryptic pronouncements of Nyamwaya.

His gaze, usually so intense, was softened now, tinged with a sorrow that mirrored her own fear. He had guided her here, not with words, but with a quiet certainty, a shared understanding that transcended spoken language. He had revealed his truth, or at least a sliver of it, and in doing so, had bound her to him in ways she still struggled to comprehend.
