The air in the small clearing, usually alive with the hum of insects and the rustle of unseen creatures, was thick with a silence that pressed in on Lynne. It was a silence born not of emptiness, but of anticipation, of held breaths and unspoken words. Nyamwaya sat opposite her, the dying embers of their small fire casting dancing shadows across his face, making his features shift and blur like a half-remembered dream. He hadn’t touched the food she’d brought, nor the water. His gaze was fixed on her, a steady, unwavering intensity that felt both like a caress and a challenge.

“You seek answers, Lynne,” he began, his voice a low murmur that seemed to resonate from the very earth beneath them. “You clutch that locket as if it holds the key to unlocking the universe. But keys are useless without knowing which door they are meant for.”

Lynne’s fingers tightened around the cool metal of the locket, hidden beneath the folds of her worn skirt. She could feel its familiar weight, a constant, comforting presence that had become as much a part of her as her own heartbeat. “I feel it, Nyamwaya,” she whispered, her own voice barely audible. “I feel the pull. The dreams… they are more than just dreams. They are real.”
