Chapter 24

Poem #4

Smoke signals rise from the peaks, Sending chills that pierce the night, Will I wake to dawn's embrace, Or vanish like a whisper in flight? The Coyote's song echoes near, Mountain Cats growl from the dark, What's lurking in the brush, I fear— A hidden world on edge, but stark. Will time devour my fleeting breath, Reducing me to dust and dream? These shadows dance with the scent of death, Yet hope flickers like starlight's gleam. In silence deep and twilight's hold, The mountains watch with ancient eyes; Through veils of smoke and secrets old, I seek my truth beneath their skies.
