The weight of the world, I’d always assumed, would settle upon my shoulders like a cloak of fine, dark velvet, heavy with the burden of my lineage, yet strangely comforting in its familiarity. But the truth, as it was revealed to me in the hushed, candle-lit chamber of King Mathias, was a far more jagged and unforgiving thing. It was not velvet, but shards of obsidian, sharp and glinting, each one promising to pierce not only me, but all that I held dear.
Mihail had brought me here, his hand a steady presence on my arm as we navigated the labyrinthine corridors of the royal palace. The air thrummed with an unspoken tension, a precursor to the storm that was gathering beyond these stone walls. His father, King Mathias, a man whose silvered beard spoke of years of wisdom and weariness, sat upon his throne, his gaze fixed on a scroll unfurled across his lap. The parchment crackled with age, its edges brittle and stained, as if it had absorbed the very essence of the words it bore.
"The prophecy," Mihail’s voice was a low murmur, barely disturbing the heavy silence, "speaks of a sorceress, born of the blood moon and the shadow of Poenari. It speaks of a power that can turn the tide of war, a magic as potent as it is perilous."
