The words of the ancient prophecy, once a distant hum in the chambers of my mind, now roared like a tempest. They echoed in the very marrow of my bones, each syllable a shard of ice, each phrase a burning brand. *“When the blood moon bleeds, and the raven’s shadow falls, the heart of the sorceress shall be the key. To sever the chains, to break the curse, a life for a life, a soul’s embrace for the land’s rebirth.”* The raven’s shadow had fallen, a tangible darkness that seeped from the very stones of Poenari, clinging to the air like a shroud. And the blood moon, a swollen, angry orb, was already staining the eastern sky, its crimson light a grim omen.

My fingers, usually steady when weaving enchantments, trembled as they traced the worn runes on the parchment. The scroll, unearthed from the deepest, dust-choked archives of my ancestral home, lay spread before me on the cold, stone table. It was a stark, brutal reality, staring me in the face with the unblinking gaze of destiny.

A life for a life. A soul’s embrace. The meaning was sickeningly clear. To save my people, to break the encroaching blight that withered their crops and poisoned their very blood, I had to offer myself. Not just my life, but my soul. The dark magic that coursed through my veins, the very essence of my being, was the weapon, but the price was annihilation. It was a pact with oblivion, a surrender to the void that lay beyond the veil of existence.
