The air in the hidden glen crackled, not with the usual scent of pine and damp earth, but with an electric tension that vibrated through my very bones. Moonlight, fractured by the ancient canopy, painted silver streaks across the mossy stones where Mihail and I stood. His hand, warm and solid, still clasped mine, a fragile anchor in the swirling storm of my own making. But the truce, that delicate peace we had carved out in the heart of impending war, was about to shatter. The prophecy, a serpent coiled in the whispers of my ancestors, demanded more than I had dared to reveal.

“Marishka,” Mihail’s voice was a low murmur, laced with the same unease that clawed at my throat. “You’ve been distant. The shadows lengthen, and I feel a chill that has nothing to do with the coming autumn.”

I met his gaze, the emerald depths of his eyes, usually so full of warmth and unwavering devotion, now held a flicker of apprehension. He saw it, didn’t he? The storm gathering within me, the tempest I had been desperately trying to contain. “There is a part of my power, Mihail,” I began, my voice a strained whisper, “a part I have kept hidden, even from myself, for so long.”
