She sat on a whitewashed terrace overlooking the Aegean, a half-finished scarf in her lap—absurd, given the temperature. But the rhythm of the stitches was the only thing that made sense. Each loop was a small act of defiance against the chaos that had driven her here. The wool was soft, a pale blue like the sky before the sun bleached it white.

A stray cat rubbed against her ankle, then padded away. She thought of the children she had wanted, the ones she had lost in the labyrinth of her own making. The memory of David’s voice, of the stolen love, felt like a stone in her chest. She had come to Greece to find the thread that would lead her back to herself, but all she found was the same silence, now translated into a foreign tongue.
