The Hatching Secret
Kaelen and Mira return to the cave to find the dragon egg hatching. The newborn dragon reveals a hidden bond with Kaelen and shares a vision of the shadow's origin, including a secret about the Heartstone's true nature. They gain a new ally and crucial information to destroy the Shadow Shard and save the corrupted village.
The tunnel felt shorter on the way back. Or maybe Kaelen was just getting used to crawling through rock. Mira moved ahead of him, her lantern swinging, casting shadows that danced like nervous fireflies. She stopped at the pile of rubble and set the lantern down.
“We’ll need to move these stones,” she said. “Quietly. If the shadow hears us, we lose the element of surprise.”
“Quietly moving rocks. My specialty.” Kaelen grabbed the first stone, a chunk the size of his head, and lifted. It was heavier than it looked. He set it aside with a grunt that was definitely not quiet.
