Chapter 5: The Falls of Crystal
Kaelen, Ignis, and Grit journey to Crystal Falls to find the third ember. They encounter a corrupted beast sent by the shadow, and during the battle, Grit is injured. Kaelen retrieves the ember but learns the shadow's influence is spreading faster than expected. He must return home to prepare for a larger assault.
The morning sun painted the mountain peaks in shades of gold and amber as Kaelen, Ignis, and Grit set out from the hidden cave. The journal, now more detailed after Lyra’s explanations, pointed them northeast toward Crystal Falls—a place where water ran over ancient stones and magic pooled like mist. Grit bounded ahead, his nose to the ground, occasionally stopping to sneeze at a particularly interesting patch of moss. Ignis perched on Kaelen’s shoulder, his scales warm against the chill air, the two embers in his chest glowing with a steady, pulsing light.
“You’d think a magical dog would be a bit more dignified,” Kaelen muttered as Grit chased his own tail in a tight circle, then stumbled into a bush.
The dog emerged with a leaf stuck to his nose and an expression of profound accomplishment. He trotted back to Kaelen, wagging his tail, as if to say, “I’ve vanquished the shrubbery.”
