Chapter 20: The Tree House
Kaelen and Laura, with help from Lyra, Mira, and the dragons, build a tree house in the old oak near the sanctuary before their journey to Ashen Hall. Grit causes chaos, Ignis assists with heavy lifting, and the structure becomes a symbol of their new life together. The chapter ends with them spending a peaceful night in the tree house, ready to depart at dawn.
The morning after the engagement celebration, the sanctuary lay quiet except for the sound of Grit digging a hole under the kitchen window. Kaelen found him there, mud up to his ears, a half-eaten carrot in his mouth.
"You're supposed to be guarding, not gardening," Kaelen said.
Grit dropped the carrot, wagged his tail, and barked once as if to say, "You're welcome."
