The days at the Haven passed in a fragile peace. Tee watched her children play by the lake, their laughter a balm against the memory of the grove. Asher's light had steadied, and Keira seemed almost carefree, her shadows retreating. Kyla patrolled the perimeter with Flanan, their bows ready. Maren worked tirelessly, the crystal sphere glowing in her cottage as she chanted ancient words.
But peace, Tee had learned, was a borrowed thing.
On the third morning, she woke to a chill that seeped through the cottage walls. The fire had died, and frost clung to the window. Asher stirred beside her, his brow furrowed. "Mama, it's cold."
