Grumblet's Change of Heart

Douglee watched as the vibrant orb, Lumina, pulsed weakly in the inky blackness. It was a far cry from the brilliant, life-giving star he’d witnessed just moments before. Beside him, Rocket whined, his tail tucked low, mirroring the gloom that had settled over the Luminians. Ambassador Zorp, usually so regal and composed, wrung their three-fingered hands, their normally iridescent skin a dull, mottled grey.

“It’s… it’s fading,” Zorp whispered, their voice raspy with despair. “Grumblet has taken too much. Our world will soon be plunged into eternal darkness.”

Douglee’s gaze drifted to the colossal, shimmering sack that Grumblet, the mischievous creature who had been hoarding Lumina’s energy, was still clutching. It pulsed with a captured light, a stolen brilliance that should have been warming an entire planet. Grumblet, a fuzzy mass of swirling colors with large, pleading eyes, sat huddled nearby, looking more confused than malicious now. The initial burst of anger and frustration Douglee had felt had begun to soften, replaced by a growing sense of understanding. Grumblet’s actions, while devastating, hadn’t felt truly evil, just… misguided.
