The air in the abandoned warehouse hung thick with the scent of dust and decay, a familiar perfume to Stephen and Crimson. They’d spent countless hours here as kids, a sanctuary from the harsh realities waiting outside. Now, it was a training ground, a place where the impossible had become their everyday. Stephen, his brow furrowed in concentration, levitated a stack of dented metal pipes, arranging them into a precarious, gravity-defying sculpture. Crimson, leaning against a graffiti-scarred pillar, watched with a restless energy, his own power coiled beneath his skin like a predator.
“You’re getting faster, Stephen,” Crimson’s voice, a low rumble, cut through the silence. “Almost as if you’re trying to outrun something.”
Stephen didn’t falter, his focus unwavering. “I’m trying to build something, Crimson. Something that lasts. Not just… react.” He nudged a pipe with his mind, adding it to the shimmering structure. “There’s a logic to this. A purpose.”
