A Fork in the Path
Their opposing ideals immediately create tension. The nascent divide between Stephen and Crimson hints at future conflict and opposing forces.
The air in the abandoned warehouse hung thick with the scent of damp concrete and forgotten dreams. Dust motes danced in the slivers of moonlight that pierced the grimy windows, illuminating the stark reality of their shared past and the diverging paths stretching before them. Stephen stood by a rusted-out forklift, his hands clenched at his sides, the raw power thrumming beneath his skin a nervous tremor. Crimson, a silhouette against the broken glass of a distant skylight, paced with a restless energy, his shadow elongating and contracting like a living thing.
"It's not about what *they* did, Crimson," Stephen said, his voice a low rumble, carefully controlled. He pushed a loose brick back into place with a subtle flick of his wrist, the stone settling with a soft thud. "It's about what *we* can do now. We can make a difference. We can stop things like that from happening again."
Crimson stopped, turning to face Stephen, a cruel smile playing on his lips. The moonlight caught the sharp angles of his face, painting him in shades of shadow and silver. "A difference? You mean like a hero, Stephen? Like the ones who turned a blind eye when we were starving in the streets? Like the ones who laughed when they kicked us around like stray dogs?" He gestured wildly, the movement charged with an unseen force that made the loose debris on the floor skitter. "No, Stephen. Our difference will be made in blood. Their blood."
