Whispers of Vengeance
Crimson sees power as a weapon. Haunted by past wrongs, he craves retribution, his gaze fixed on those who caused them pain.
Crimson’s fingers traced the condensation on the grimy windowpane, each swipe a slow, deliberate act that mirrored the simmering unrest within him. Outside, the city sprawled, a concrete behemoth indifferent to the ghosts that haunted its alleys, indifferent to the small injustices that festered in its underbelly. It was a city that had taught him early on that power, or the lack of it, dictated everything. And now, he had power. Real power. The kind that could reshape the world, or at least, his small corner of it.
He turned from the window, his gaze falling on Stephen, who was meticulously arranging a stack of worn books on a makeshift shelf. Stephen, with his earnest eyes and his quiet determination, was already trying to impose order on their chaotic lives. It was admirable, in a way, but Crimson found it… quaint. Like a child building sandcastles against an incoming tide.
“You really think polishing those old stories is going to make a difference, Stephen?” Crimson’s voice was low, a rumble that held an edge of something sharp. He watched Stephen’s shoulders tense slightly, but his friend didn’t turn around.
“It’s not about polishing them, Crimson. It’s about understanding them. Learning from them.” Stephen’s voice was calm, measured, a stark contrast to the tempest brewing inside Crimson. “We have a chance here, a real chance, to do something good. To protect people.”
