Beside him, Theron, the hulking, gentle giant Elias had befriended in the shadowed groves, nodded his massive head, his brow furrowed with concern. Even the usually stoic Lyra, the enigmatic rogue who had pledged her loyalty, radiated a nervous energy.
“The pathways grow treacherous,” Elara warned, her voice a low murmur, like wind through ancient pines. “The Jester’s influence spreads like a blight. His illusions will seek to ensnare us, to turn us against ourselves, against each other.”
