The ancient pages crackled under Elias’s trembling fingers, a symphony of brittle paper and the whisper of forgotten winds. The book, bound in what felt like petrified bark, had been tucked away in the deepest, most shadowed recess of the ancient oak, a place the Forest Guide had indicated with a nod and a cryptic smile. He’d expected a map, perhaps a prophecy, but this… this was something far more potent. It spoke of the very heart of Needling, of a power source, a stolen artifact named the Aetherium Shard, and of Lord Jester, not as a ruler born to his station, but as a usurper, a thief.

“He doesn’t wield power, he drains it,” Elias murmured, his voice a rough whisper in the hushed quiet of the forest clearing. The words on the page were stark, almost brutal in their clarity: *“The Shard, torn from the Weaver’s Loom, bleeds the life from Needling. Jester, a parasite, feasts upon its dying light.”* The illustration accompanying the passage depicted a swirling vortex of color, a jeweled object at its center, and a shadowy figure cloaked in mockery. It was unmistakably Lord Jester, his painted grin more sinister than ever in this ancient depiction.

Elias’s mind, accustomed to the cold, hard logic of science, grappled with the fantastical language. Magic, artifacts, dimensions – these were concepts he’d only toyed with in theoretical equations, never believed to be tangible realities. Yet, here he was, living proof of the impossible. And now, this book confirmed his dawning suspicion: Lord Jester was not merely a cruel ruler, but a blight, actively decaying the world he claimed to govern.
