The Architect's Canvas
Detective West, a renowned architect, is summoned to a crime scene: a historic building defaced with intricate, architectural symbols. The vandalism appears deliberate, a cryptic message only an expert would grasp.
The rain, a persistent drizzle that seemed to cling to the city like a second skin, did little to dampen the incandescent glow of the streetlamps as Detective Jason West’s sleek, obsidian vehicle glided to a halt. The imposing edifice of the Grand Athenaeum, a monolith of Beaux-Arts grandeur, loomed before him, its stone façade usually exuding an aura of stoic permanence. Tonight, however, it wore a garish, spray-painted mask.
West, or ARCHIMEDES as the precinct affectionately, and sometimes fearfully, called him, emerged from the car. His signature green suit, a marvel of bio-neural interface technology, shimmered faintly under the ambient light. The high collar, an architectural statement in itself, was pulled up, its integrated green lights pulsing with a soft, rhythmic glow that mirrored the quiet hum of his internal processors. He surveyed the scene, his gaze, usually piercingly analytical, now held a flicker of something akin to professional curiosity, tinged with an architect’s inherent appreciation for form, even when defaced.
“Detective West,” a uniformed officer, a young man whose badge read ‘Miller,’ approached, his face etched with a mixture of awe and apprehension. “Glad you could make it. It’s… well, it’s a mess.”
