Chapter 15
The Observer's Eye
The rival architect's true motives are revealed. Their obsession stems from a personal connection to the original architect or a desire to exploit the lost invention for nefarious purposes, putting many at risk.
The air in the Grand Central Archives hung thick with the scent of aged paper and forgotten ink. Detective Jason West, or Archimedes as the Central Bureau’s Forensic Division knew him, stood before a towering shelf, his green-clad form a stark contrast to the sepia tones of history. His Aegis Cortex whirred softly beneath the integrated circuitry of his suit, processing the ambient data – dust motes dancing in the slivers of sunlight, the subtle tremor of distant traffic, the hushed whispers of archivists like the rustling of ancient parchment.
He was here because his rival, the enigmatic architect known only as 'The Observer,' had made a move. Not a direct confrontation, but a subtle, almost imperceptible shift in the flow of information. A specific set of architectural blueprints, meticulously cataloged and supposedly inaccessible, had been accessed. The digital logs, scanned and cross-referenced by West’s suit in mere nanoseconds, showed no unauthorized entry, no forced breach. The Observer had simply… been there.
“Anything, West?” Detective Anya Sharma’s voice, sharp and pragmatic, cut through the quiet hum of the archives. She stood a few feet away, arms crossed, her gaze flicking between West and the endless rows of documents. Her presence was a grounding force, a reminder of the human element he often struggled to integrate into his calculations.
