A Test of Will
The Guardian presents Elara with a series of trials, designed to break her spirit. Kaelen offers cryptic advice, but Elara must face the challenges alone, relying on her inner strength.
The air in the cavern grew heavy, thick with an ancient stillness that pressed in on Elara. Before her, where the path had ended, now stood a colossal figure carved from the very rock of the mountain. It was the Guardian, a being of weathered stone and shadows, its eyes glowing with an inner, emerald light. Elara’s heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage. Kaelen stood a respectful distance behind her, his presence a silent anchor, but the task ahead was hers alone.
"You seek what is not yours to claim," the Guardian’s voice rumbled, a sound like stones grinding together, each syllable resonating deep within Elara’s bones. "The powers are not for the weak of heart, nor the easily swayed."
Elara swallowed, her throat dry. "I… I don't want to claim them. I want to understand them. I want to know why I have this mark." She touched her forehead instinctively, the familiar star shape a beacon of her fear and uncertainty.
