Chapter 11
The Society's Reach
Thorne subtly attempts to dissuade Elara, using his influence. The friends realize the society is not just a historical entity but a present-day threat with deep roots.
The hushed reverence of the library, usually Elara’s sanctuary, now felt like a cage. Sunlight, once a gentle visitor through the tall arched windows, now seemed to mock her with its cheerful indifference. Ms. Albright had been uncharacteristically distant since Elara’s return from the abandoned observatory, her usual stern gaze replaced by a watchful, almost apprehensive one.
