Chapter 14
A Glimpse of God's Design
Eli witnesses a terrifyingly large-scale animation event, revealing the scope of God's plan. The sheer power on display shakes his resolve but strengthens his purpose.
The earth didn't just tremble; it *shifted*. It wasn't the deep, guttural rumble of tectonic plates grinding against each other, but a sickening, fluid heave, like a giant beast stirring in its sleep. I’d been exploring a new cave system, a labyrinth of damp, echoing tunnels that promised to be my sanctuary for a few days while the caravan moved on. But then the air itself began to hum, a discordant, buzzing melody that vibrated in my teeth and made my skin crawl. It was the sound of animation, but on a scale I’d never imagined.
I scrambled out of the cave mouth, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. The sky, usually a bruised purple at this hour, was a riot of unnatural color. Great swathes of it were peeling away, revealing a sickly, vibrant yellow beneath, like the inside of a rotten fruit. And the land… gods, the land. The rolling hills, the ancient forests that had been my family’s constant companions for generations, they were… changing. Trees twisted and writhed, their bark rippling like skin, their leaves morphing into sharp, geometric shapes. The very ground seemed to breathe, great undulations pulsing through the earth.
It was like watching a painter frantically repaint the world, but with a palette of madness. Everything was becoming too bright, too sharp, too… *alive* in a way that felt utterly wrong. The animation plague, which I’d only ever witnessed in isolated incidents—a startled deer with eyes that glowed like embers, a bird with wings that unfurled into sharp, metallic angles—was now a full-blown cataclysm.
