The air in the Voidheart was a thick, viscous soup, clinging to Bodyguard’s lungs with every ragged breath. It tasted of ozone and something far older, far fouler, a metallic tang that settled on his tongue like old blood. The weapon’s targeting array painted a faint crimson lattice across the gloom, seeking out the anomaly.
