The News Broadcast
The gas station TV flickers to life, broadcasting a dire news report: the world is ending. Five helicopters are seen taking off from a city building. The reality of their situation hits hard.
The fluorescent lights of the gas station flickered erratically, casting long, dancing shadows that seemed to mock their desperate search for answers. The air, thick with the scent of stale coffee and gasoline, did little to calm the frantic beating of Ivanka's heart. Mia, her small body trembling against Ivanka’s side, clutched her worn teddy bear, its button eyes seeming to stare blankly into the growing chaos. Tamera, her jaw set in a grim line, paced restlessly near the snack aisle, while Azarah, her usual spark dimmed, fiddled with the hem of her shirt. Celine, ever the quiet observer, sat on the floor, her knees pulled to her chest, her gaze fixed on the grimy linoleum.
"Anything?" Ivanka whispered, her voice raspy.
Tamera shook her head, frustration etched on her face. "Just more of the same. People panicking, roads blocked. Nothing about… about what's happening."
