Downtown Black Creek is now overrun. Bubba and Sarah navigate the dangerous, infected-filled streets, witnessing the full extent of the town's collapse and the desperate struggle for survival.

The air hung thick and heavy, not with the usual coal dust that clung to everything in Black Creek, but with something far more putrid, a cloying sweetness that turned the gut. It was the smell of decay, of things left too long in the sun, and it was everywhere. Bubba gripped the steering wheel of Jesse’s beat-up pickup, his knuckles white. Beside him, Sarah’s face was pale, her eyes wide as she scanned the street. What had been a familiar main drag, the heart of their small town, was now a grotesque tableau of ruin.

Cars sat abandoned at odd angles, doors flung open like gaping mouths. A child’s bright red tricycle lay overturned on the sidewalk, one wheel still spinning lazily in the unnatural stillness. Storefront windows were shattered, their contents spilled out onto the cracked pavement, a jumbled mess of clothes, canned goods, and shattered dreams. The awnings of the diner and the hardware store flapped listlessly in a breeze that carried no relief.
