Singing to the Trees
Slightly bewildered but willing to try anything, the narrator sings to the ancient trees. To their astonishment, a hidden pathway shimmers into existence, revealing a secret route previously concealed by magic.
"Sing to the trees?" I repeated, my voice a squeak of disbelief. The phone, nestled in my palm, pulsed with a faint, self-satisfied glow. Its screen, which had so helpfully displayed a map, was now showing a rather unhelpful diagram of a musical note. "Are you sure about this? I’m not exactly a nightingale. More like a… startled pigeon."
The phone buzzed, a sound that I was starting to interpret as a digital shrug. *“Magic,”* a tinny voice crackled from its speaker, *“works in mysterious ways. And sometimes, it just really, really likes a good tune. Especially from a pigeon.”*
I sighed. After the badger incident, where I'd managed to solve his riddles by accidentally quoting a nursery rhyme about a farmer who’d lost his sheep (which, apparently, was the badger's favorite), I was starting to believe anything was possible. Still, singing to trees felt like a new level of absurdity.
