The magical phone continues to offer its unique brand of guidance. 'Dance with the daisies!' or 'Ask the wind for directions!' are just some of the odd but effective clues that help them find the sock owners.

"Dance with the daisies!" the phone chirped, its screen a dizzying swirl of pastel colours. I blinked at it, clutching it like a particularly opinionated pet. Beside me, Bartholomew, the sock who claimed to be a distinguished gentleman despite his argyle pattern, wriggled his toe-seam in exasperation. "Honestly," he huffed, his voice a surprisingly deep baritone for something made of cotton, "must we engage in such frivolous pursuits? My owner, Reginald, is likely beside himself with worry. He detests being late for his afternoon tea, and a missing sock would undoubtedly throw his entire schedule into disarray."

I sighed, but a grin tugged at my lips. The phone’s advice was positively bonkers, but somehow, it always worked. Last time, it had told me to “whisper secrets to the dandelions” to find Mrs. Higgins’ lost striped sock, and lo and behold, a gust of wind had blown a dandelion seed right into her open window, carrying the sock with it. This time, it was dancing. With daisies. In the middle of a perfectly respectable meadow.

"Come on, Bartholomew," I said, trying to sound encouraging. "Think of it as… interpretative gardening. The phone wouldn't tell us to do it if it wasn't important."
