Chapter 5
A Shadow's Stalk
A chilling sense of being watched begins to plague Dean and Alyson. Minor, unsettling incidents start to occur: streetlights flicker erratically as they pass, strange noises echo from empty rooms, and fleeting shadows seem to dart just at the edge of their vision. They find themselves constantly looking over their shoulders, the feeling of unseen eyes on them intensifying with each passing day. The masked killer, it seems, is aware of their observation and is now playing a dangerous game. This escalating psychological torment blurs the lines between paranoia and reality, making them question their sanity and heightening their fear.

Beside him, Alyson walked with a slight slump to her shoulders, her gaze sweeping the neat rows of houses, the manicured lawns, the perfectly trimmed hedges. A subtle unease had settled over them, a silent companion that had taken up residence in the spaces between their words. Alyson nodded, pulling her jacket tighter around herself, though the air was still pleasantly mild. "And the noises. Last night, in my apartment, I swore I heard someone moving around in the living room. But David was asleep, and I checked, and everything was locked up tight. It was just... a creak. A floorboard creak that sounded too deliberate." She shivered, a tremor that ran deeper than the evening chill.
