Chapter 6
Whispers of a Dark Ritual
Returning to Sarai for more refined intel, Dark receives a chilling revelation. The Chalice of Aethelred hasn't merely been stolen for profit or power; it's a key component in a dark ritual. Sarai's sources, deep within the city's occult underbelly, speak of arcane ceremonies and malevolent intent. The purpose of the ritual remains shrouded in mystery, but the implication is clear: the relic's recovery is no longer just about a stolen artifact, but about preventing a potentially catastrophic event. The stakes have been dramatically raised, and Dark feels a familiar chill crawl up his spine, a premonition of the true evil he's about to face.
The stale air of Sarai’s den clung to Bishop Dark like a shroud, thick with the scent of cheap incense and desperation. He nursed a half-empty flask, the cheap rotgut doing little to numb the gnawing unease that had settled in his gut since leaving Abbot Kale’s sterile chambers. The stolen Chalice of Aethelred. A holy relic, yes, but more than that, a symbol. And now, a tool for something far fouler than simple thievery.
Sarai, perched on a velvet cushion that had seen better centuries, toyed with a silver chain that dangled a single, obsidian bead. Her eyes, dark and sharp as a carrion bird’s, flickered over him. "Back so soon, Bishop? Did the stench of piety overwhelm you?"
Dark grunted, taking another swig. "The Abbot’s got a bee in his bonnet about the Chalice. Wants it back. Fast."
