Chapter 14

Echoes of the Past, Hollow Victory

The sorcerer is defeated, the dark ritual disrupted, and the Chalice of Aethelred recovered. Yet, the victory feels hollow, tainted by the revelations and the impossible choices made. Dark stands amidst the wreckage of the sanctum, the divine fire of Souls Sun slowly receding, leaving behind only the stench of burnt magic and unanswered questions. He has fulfilled his mission, but the personal cost is immense. The echoes of the past, particularly concerning Talia, resonate louder than any cheers of triumph, leaving him changed, burdened by the knowledge that his quest for redemption is far from over.

The inferno of Souls Sun, a celestial fury unleashed from the Radiant Blade, finally began to ebb, its divine heat receding like a tide pulling away from a ravaged shore. Bishop Dark stood amidst the calcified remains of the sorcerer’s sanctum, the air thick with the acrid stench of burnt magic and the metallic tang of spilled ichor. And then, the image, seared into his vision: a young girl, eyes wide with a fear that mirrored his own, her face superimposed over the sorcerer’s contorted features in the final moments. Talia. His sister. The ghost that had haunted him for five years, now a spectral presence in the heart of this desecrated temple.
