Chapter 12
A Sister's Plea, a Twisted Truth
In the heat of the battle, the sorcerer reveals a connection to Talia that shatters Dark's assumptions. It's not a simple tale of a kidnapped sister; the sorcerer speaks of Talia's presence, her choices, her potential willingness. He claims she is not merely a victim but perhaps a willing participant, or at least a pawn in a far more complex game. This revelation forces Dark to question everything he thought he knew about his sister and the circumstances of her disappearance. The sorcerer's words, delivered with a chilling sincerity, plant seeds of doubt and confusion, blurring the lines between good and evil, victim and perpetrator.
The air thrummed with a violence that had nothing to do with the crackling arcane energies spilling from the sorcerer’s outstretched hands. Bishop Dark grunted, the impact of a searing bolt of shadow magic slamming into his chest sending him skidding across the flagstone floor of the desecrated sanctuary. Souls Sun, his consecrated blade, flared in his grip, its holy fire a desperate, sputtering defiance against the encroaching darkness. The stolen chalice, the object of this bloody chase, lay forgotten somewhere amidst the chaos, its sacred purpose twisted into something vile.
“You think you can defy me, hunter?” the sorcerer’s voice, a grating whisper that scraped against Dark’s very bones, echoed in the cavernous space. His face, usually a mask of cold calculation, was contorted with a triumphant fury. “You, a pawn of a dying faith, seeking to reclaim a trinket that belongs to a new dawn?”
Dark spat blood, the metallic tang a familiar companion. “A trinket that’ll burn a hole through your black little soul, sorcerer.” He surged forward, the holy light of Souls Sun singing its deadly song. He’d faced down demons, cultists, and things that slithered in the deepest pits, but this man, this architect of this foul ritual, radiated a power that was both ancient and disturbingly personal.
